Tiny four-pitch campground, small tents only please

Essential info

Separate Areas

The 4-pitch Lazy Duck Camping Ground is located quite separately from the Lazy Duck Hostel, The Woodman’s Hut, The Duck’s Nest and The Lambing Bothy.  All of these are designed for specific numbers so we cannot offer to combine camping bookings with other accommodations, there is just not enough extra social space.

Tent Sizes & Pitches

We provide space for four lightweight 1, 2 or 3 person tents only, with a reserve pitch for anyone who arrives ‘off the road’ either cycling or on foot.  If in error you arrive with a tent larger than 3 man you may find we cannot accommodate you. For guidance, the maximum dimensions are length 375cm x width 180cm x height 150cm.

Booking Confirmation, Payment & Refunds

Campsite bookings must be paid for in advance, in full please. Payment can be made by most credit or debit cards via a secure payment link or over the phone.  In the case of a cancellation we can offer a refund only if this is notified more than 7 days in advance. Please note the camping bookings calendar opens mid January for the 2019 season.

Considerate Camping

The Lazy Duck is a peaceful place. Please be mindful of this when you are enjoying the swings and hammock and around the chimenea fires. For everybody’s benefit we ask for a respectful quiet period please between 10pm and 8am. Be assured, Lazy Duck is a non-smoking environment, including out of doors, and including e-cigarettes.

Visitors & Dogs

We can sometimes welcome extra visitors not registered with us. Please ask us first in case extra numbers would pose problems for resident guests. Regrettably visiting dog/s are not possible in the hut on account of the sensitive wildlife in the vicinity. However we can personally recommend a small local kennels, Hilltop Kennels in Dulnain Bridge, offering first class accommodation and individual care at a very reasonable price to enable your pet to get the benefit of the great walks here. 01479 851330

Safety & Ducks

We ask that lit chimeneas and cooking stoves are never left unattended. Please don’t approach the pond or wander amongst the ducks, but do watch them from the Welcoming Seat overlooking the water and please take full responsibility for your own children anywhere in the grounds. Thank you.  Children are welcome to ask if they can help at morning duck feeding time, – Mum and Dad bring the camera!

Green Practices

You will find recycling arrangements clearly marked for all separated waste materials. If in any doubt please ask us. We ask that protective slates are used beneath all cooking stoves and hot pots to avoid any burn marks on the grass. If you bring a portable BBQ please show it to us before lighting and if necessary we can give you everything needed to save you accidentally burning the grass underneath. Unfortunately, because of the forest around us, we are unable to accommodate pit fires / fire bowls. Vehicles may not be taken on to the camping ground at any time during your stay. For stays of more than 3 nights we ask that you re-pitch so that the ground will remain green and fresh

On Arrival

Earliest check in is 4pm. Latest is 9pm. Please give us a call on 0131 618 6198 when you are around 30 minutes away so we can be sure to be on hand to welcome you. Checkout is any time up to 10.30am on day of departure. If you are going to arrive later than expected, again please ring 0131 618 6198.

Laundry Services

On request we can provide laundry services, using our ever-busy washing machine to wash your clothes and, if it’s a wet day, our dryer to dry them. We ask for £5 towards wash and dry services.

Hot Tub & Sauna

Lazy Duck’s wood fired hot tub can be booked in advance via email, or by asking a member of the team before 10:00am on the desired booking day. For a one hour private session (between 16:00 and 19:45 each day) it is £10 per person, or £5 for children under the age of 10. Very sorry, we cannot offer the hot tub on New Year’s Eve or Christmas Day.

If more than 4 of you are going in the tub, the price reduces to £7.50 per person. The hot tub has a maximum capacity of 6 people, so if all 8 of you would like to jump in we recommend booking a two hour slot and rotating people in the tub.

You can book a 40 minute private session in the infra-red sauna for the cost of £7.50 for one person or £10 in total for two people. The sauna is available to be booked between the hours of 10:30 – 12:30 & 16:30 – 20:00.

Aromatherapy Massage

We regret to inform you that we cannot offer massage treatments at this time. We aim to have this wonderful experience back on offer soon, hopefully early in 2019.

On Departure

We ask that you please vacate your pitch by 10.30am on the day of departure to allow time for camping ground maintenance.  Please ring the bell before you leave so we can wish you safe journey.

Important – Please note

Please accept full responsibility for your own belongings whilst staying at The Lazy Duck. We don’t provide keys or lockers so feel free to ask us to safeguard valuables in the house or cottage when you go out, – or take them with you.
