Booking Terms

Deposits & Cancellation policy

If you have to cancel we will refund your deposit in full only if we are able to re-let your booking in full, so please let us know straightaway so that we can advertise any cancellation immediately.  Depending on circumstances we may have to charge you a cancellation fee of from £20-50. Sorry, we cannot offer to transfer a deposit to an alternative date once a booking has been confirmed.

Maximum occupancy

Please remember that 8 is our absolute maximum occupancy for this small hut-hostel.  Also, because we do not have a large enough social area and out of respect for guests staying in other huts and the camping ground we cannot accept combination bookings for any group larger than 8.

Kit List

Please bring personal towels. Sheet sleeping bags and pillow cases are provided and no personal sleeping bags should be brought into the hostel. Some charcoal (and marshmallows?) for a BBQ and perhaps fire-lighters, – but no coal or equivalents please. A torch may be useful except perhaps in high summer.

Safety

We recommend that children under 5 years old do not use the ship’s ladder to the gallery and should sleep downstairs If you bring a toddler we can provide a fire guard for the wood stove Please do not approach the pond or wander amongst the ducks, – do though enjoy the Welcoming Seat overlooking the pond

Dogs

We regret that with wandering waterfowl on the loose we are unable to accommodate even the most wonderful visiting dogs

Housekeeping

With your help and for everyone’s comfort we service the hostel each day.  Please look out for the details of how we ask you to assist. These will be found in our Welcome Notes on display in the hostel.
We leave the sleeping areas entirely to you, but please remember to use the sheet liners and pillow cases provided.
In the event of damage, or a need for much more cleaning time during or following your visit we reserve the right to make a surcharge to cover the extra costs.  On your departure please leave the hostel much as you found it on arrival.

Considerate Guests

Please be mindful of the expectations of guests in all accommodations to enjoy the peacefulness of The Lazy Duck.  You will understand therefore that Stags and Hens cannot be accommodated. For everybody’s benefit we ask for a respectful quiet period in and around the hostel between 11pm and 8am.  This allows for outdoor folk off early and young children to get a good night’s sleep. Be assured, Lazy Duck is a non-smoking environment, including out-of-doors, including e-cigarettes.

Extra Visitors

We are very small here. Visitors from outside may be possible but please discuss with us first. Such a visit may be possible providing we feel happy there is no danger of overcrowding other guests staying in the two-person huts and camping ground.

Hot Tub, Sauna & Swedish Massage

Lazy Duck’s wood fired hot tub and infra-red sauna can only be booked on the day, and not in advance of your holiday unfortunately.
  • For the hot tub we need to have a request by 10am on the same day.   If you are not already here to speak to us in person the number to use is 07597 461 577.  A minimum charge of £25 applies, however depending on uptake on the day costs can be shared on the basis of £7.50 per person, per 1 hour private session.  Very sorry, we cannot offer the hot tub on New Year’s Eve, nor on Christmas Day.
  • For the 2-person sauna we need to have notice 90mins in advance and a minimum charge of £7.50 applies.  A standard 40 minute private session with music (your choice) for 2 people costs £10, normally available on any day of the year.
  • To relax, refresh and unwind with a Swedish massage treatment provided in our own Wellbeing Studio please contact Jo of Whole Soul Cairngorms Massage Therapy.  Prices from £25.00 for a 30 minute appointment. Advance booking essential on 07905 883 134 or via Facebook at www.facebook.com/wholesoulcairngorms

Personal belongings

Please accept full responsibility for your own belongings whilst staying at The Lazy Duck. We don’t provide keys or lockers so feel free to ask us to safeguard valuables in the house or cottage when you go out, – or take them with you.
