Deposits & Cancellation policy

Shared Use Bookings

Please let us know straightaway so that we can advertise any cancellation immediately. If we are successful on your behalf you will receive a refund less a 20% handling fee.

Maximum occupancy

We’re very small, so to avoid disappointment please be sure to book in advance, otherwise we may not be able to fit you in.  Please remember that 6 is our maximum occupancy when different parties share and 8 is our maximum for a private party booking. Also, because the hostel, the camping ground, and both huts are quite separate from each other and are all designed for small numbers, we regret that in the interest of everybody’s comfort we are unable to have visitors ‘book out the whole accommodation’.

Arriving & Leaving

You can arrive any time between 4pm and 9pm. We ask you please to e-mail us with your name, the name of your accommodation, and your estimated arrival time before 12noon on your day of travel. A text when you are about 30mins off will also be much appreciated, to 07505 636 136 (or 07936363300 on Sat/Sun) to let us make sure the wood stove is going well for you if the weather is cold. Checkout is any time up to 10am on day of departure.

Kit List

Please bring personal towels. Sheet sleeping bags and pillow cases are provided and no personal sleeping bags should be brought into the hostel. Some charcoal (and marshmallows?) for a BBQ and perhaps fire-lighters, – but no coal or equivalents please. A torch may be useful except perhaps in high summer.

Safety

We recommend that children under 5 years old do not use the ship’s ladder to the gallery and should sleep downstairs If you bring a toddler we can provide a fire guard for the wood stove Please do not approach the pond or wander amongst the ducks, – do though enjoy the Welcoming Seat overlooking the pond

Dogs

We regret that with wandering waterfowl on the loose we are unable to accommodate even the most wonderful visiting dogs

Housekeeping

With your help and for everyone’s comfort we service the hostel each day.  Please look out for the details of how we ask you to assist. These will be found in our Welcome Notes on display in the hostel.
We leave the sleeping areas entirely to you, but please remember to use the sheet liners and pillow cases provided.
In the event of damage, or a need for much more cleaning time during or following your visit we reserve the right to make a surcharge to cover the extra costs. On your departure please leave the hostel much as you found it on arrival.

Considerate Guests

Please be mindful of the expectations of guests in all accommodations to enjoy the peacefulness of The Lazy Duck.  You will understand therefore that Stags and Hens cannot be accommodated. For everybody’s benefit we ask for a respectful quiet period in and around the hostel between 11pm and 8am.  This allows for outdoor folk off early and young children to get a good night’s sleep. Be assured, Lazy Duck is a non-smoking environment, including out-of-doors.

Extra Visitors

We are very small here. Visitors from outside may be possible but please discuss with us first. Such a visit may be possible providing we feel happy there is no danger of overcrowding other guests staying in the hostel, two huts and camping ground.

Sauna & Hot Tub

These facilities must be booked and paid for in advance on the day please. We need notice from mid morning for firing the hot tub, and from 1 hour in advance for the sauna, so please ask about these as early as possible. A minimum charge of £25 applies to the hot tub. Depending on uptake on the day this can be shared on the basis of £7.50 per person per 1 hour private session. A minimum charge of £7.50 applies to the use of the sauna. Maximum occupancy is 2, and a 40 minute infra-red session with music costs £10.

Personal belongings

Please accept full responsibility for your own belongings whilst staying at The Lazy Duck. We don’t provide keys or lockers so feel free to ask us to safeguard valuables in the house or cottage when you go out, – or take them with you.
